Special usage

Foodstuffs and hazardous substances require appropriate packaging. So we offer food-safe bags, ventilated big bags and UN bags, as well as antistatic big bags.

Food contact

Big bags, woven bags and container liners are highly suitable for the storage and transport of foodstuffs. However, such packaging has to fulfil specific conditions.

The food sector has been our most important market for decades, so our production and quality processes are fully geared to food-safe packaging. This enables us to guarantee the safety of your products.

  • Use of food contact materials.

  • Contamination avoided by means of appropriate design, hygiene measures and additional checks.

  • Production in a food-safe environment in accordance with the most stringent hygiene standards.

  • Food-safe production in our own certified environment (BRCGS and ISO 22000)

  • Extra protection by adding barrier liners and specific coatings.

  • Careful packaging in special protective bale covers to guard against possible contamination.

  • Delivery on wooden heat-treated pallets, plastic pallets or other pool pallets.

UN bags

Particular attention has to be paid to packaging for hazardous substances. So UN bags have to comply with the international UN regulations (the Orange Book) as regards production, use, testing, labelling and certification.

Our UN bags meet all these requirements thanks to the expertise of our R&D people, a thorough quality department and a specialised production unit.

  • The various types of UN big bags are classified depending on whether they have uncoated or coated fabric, with or without an integrated liner. We can offer these types of UN big bags (13H1, 13H2, 13H3 and 13H4) tailored to your application.

  • We work closely with the BVI, the Belgian Packaging Institute, for the safeguarding, testing and certification of our UN big bags.

  • These UN bags are made in our own specialised production environment.

Protective antistatic big bags (ATEX)

Antistatic big bags provide protection against the risks of static electricity. This is caused by friction and separation between materials and other surfaces.

Handling big bags can cause such unwanted electrostatic charges.

  • The wall of the big bag can attract dust to both the inside and the outside of the bag.

  • Upon contact, the charged bag can give the operator a small but unpleasant shock.

  • Discharging can produce a spark in an inflammable or explosive environment.

Where this risk exists, a protective antistatic big bag that meets the ATEX guidelines is advisable. Louis Blockx offers various customised solutions for Type B, Type C and Type D antistatic big bags in accordance with the International IEC 61340-4-4 (Ed. 3.0) Standard.

Depending on the requirements, we offer extra options, such as an additional liner. We have a range of multilayer, food-safe, conductive and permanently antistatic films for this purpose. We can process and preform these films to optimal shaped liners.

  • Type B FIBCs are made of fabric and films that prevent sparks and discharges.

  • Type C big bags are made of fabric with inwoven conductive tapes, connected to earthing points. These bags are earthed during filling and emptying, thereby preventing the build-up of a static charge.

  • Type D big bags are made of special Chromiq® fabric. This fabric safely disperses the static electricity without the need for the big bag to be earthed.

Ventilated big bags

Ventilated big bags are the ideal packaging for storing or transporting agricultural products such as potatoes, onions and fruit, as well as for wood. These products need good ventilation.

The big bags are made from a fabric with a special weave pattern. A specific number of vertical tapes is missing at regular intervals, creating ventilation strips. Despite the openings, the fabric remains sturdy, so that the big bags can also take heavier loads.
